About Brighton Beach

Although Brighton Beach is approximately 65 miles south of central London, it is nicked named London beach. Most visitors are Londoners day-tripping or enjoying weekend breaks. This is as Brighton is the nearest beach to England’s capital. It is visited by over 15 million visitors every year, all with the same idea.

Most looking for sun, sea, relaxation, Seafront drinking and more. Brighton city’s shoreline and 4-mile promenade are primed and ready to satisfy all these needs.

1. Sunscreen

In this 21st century, sunscreen is possibly the most important thing you should take to the beach in this ever-increasing globally warming climate.

A high-factor sunblock will not just prevent you from getting burnt in the sun. Still, it can also significantly protect you from the harmful UVB & UVA rays in the sun that can cause skin cancer.

A factor of 30 suncream may sound like a lot, but when the heat is in the upper 20 degrees or 30s. A nice tan can still be achieved. Also, be warned of breezes that make it feel cooler than it really is, yet those harmful rays are still getting through.

A factor of 50+ sunblock should be standard on children, as their skin is more sensitive than adults and more prone to burn.

The most important factor for you to remember is that the sunscreen you choose should be water-resistant. And to be applied every couple of hours, or at least every time you get wet or sweaty.

Applying just once and not reapplying throughout the day may give you a false sense of security but will not serve you in the long run.

It is essential to prevent your skin from sun damage, not only for health reasons but also not to spoil your Brighton beach visit.

2. Towels

In case you didn’t know! Brighton beach is a pebble beach. But even on sand beaches, you don’t want to lie directly on the beach, so a beach towel is also essential.

Whether you choose a quick-dry towel, Turkish towels, or just a traditional beach towel, having something to put down on the pebbles or sun lounge and dry yourself with is very important.

It may be a good idea to bring two towels, one to lie on and one to dry yourself. Who wants to lie on a wet towel once you have just dried off.

Whether you wish to lay down or simply put the towel as a cover on top of your deck chairs, having an extra towel on hand can make your life so much easier at the beach.

3. Water Bottle and Water

The sun in the summer can be hot, and the breeze can be deceiving. You must keep your body hydrated when out in the sun on Brighton beach.

We recommend bringing an insulated water bottle that will keep your water cool throughout the day. That way, you will be able to keep yourself hydrated and healthy during your day on the beach.

Remember, it is best to remain hydrated by taking small sips of water constantly. Instead of drinking a large quantity of water in one go, thinking it will hydrate you for longer. It doesn’t work like that.

Stay Hydrated!

4. Sunglasses

Much like your skin needing protection from harmful UV rays, so do your eyes. If you are planning on spending an extended period outside in the sun. Like spending the day on the beach, we recommend getting some proper sunglasses and remembering to wear them.

What makes a good pair of sunglasses? A good pair of sunglasses block 99% or more UV rays. This is the best way to protect your eyes and ensure their eye health in the long run.

Not only that, but sunglasses are a fashion statement too.

5. Entertainment – Music, Audiobooks, Books, Games

If you are planning a long day at the beach, you will need to decide on what to bring with you for entertainment. Most people are happy to use their phones to listen to music or a good audiobook.

Both of these activities can be highly relaxing when your eyes are closed and your body warmed from the sun’s rays. Nothing is more tranquil than listening through your headphones, with only the sea waves lapping the beach shore as an external sound.

Other options for entertainment include bringing a book to read or even some card or board games to play, if there is a group of you, and you’re feeling more social.

But, Whether you’re visiting Brighton beach on your own or with friends or family. Having different entertainment options available will only help make your day all the more fun and fulfilling.

6. Headphones

If you are chillaxing on Brighton beach, it is best to bring a pair of headphones or earphones with you. Headphones are a great and, to a degree, the only way of blocking out external noise when on a busy beachfront. Headphones can be used to listen to music, audiobooks, or even watch a movie or tv show on your phone. (Good luck with the sun glare on your screen, though)

We recommend Bluetooth earphones when on a sunny beach as you won’t be left with tan marks from the cord crossing your chest. This is the main reason why wireless headphones are indeed the way to go when you are chilling on the beach and enjoying our Brighton sun.

7. Snacks

Everyone’s choices of snacks are entirely personal, so when it comes to what you choose to bring to the beach, you can select an assortment of different things. Whether you want to bring crisps, nuts, granola bars, fruit, or a sandwich with you to the beach will always come down to personal choice.

However, from experience, we recommend not taking with you things that may melt or get destroyed in the heat of the sun. Like chocolate, though a beautiful thing to have. It may prove rather stressful to consume when it’s in melted liquid form.

There’s no better way to ruin a day on the beach than with the contents of your bag covered in the sticky remains of a half-opened chocolate bar.

A cool box would be a good idea, but remember to take some cash if you’re not that organised.

8. Money

The 6.4-kilometre promenade alongside Brighton beach has so many vendors, stalls and establishments where you can spend your pennies.

To quench any desire, from refreshing ice cream, fish and chips, bars and restaurants. There is also a little funfair with a couple of rides for kids, Art galleries, and even clairvoyants to read your fortune with tarot card readings.

So, on the one hand, you never know when you might need some extra cash to pay for deck chairs or any else. But on the other, hold on to your money as the ice-cold beers, hot sun and buzzing surrounding venters may make for empty pockets after all.

9. Sandals or Flip-Flops

Brighton beach is a pebble beach, so it would be wise to take some light footwear with you to get on and off easily and quickly. That is why some sandals or flip-flops would be ideal as you can slip in and out of them effortlessly.

Whether you want to wear them as you walk on the peddled beach, or your feet are muscular enough to tackle the nobbles of Brighton pebbled beach. You just want them when popping to the loo or shop to buy a treat. Having them available will make your day that much easier as you will not be scrambling with your shoes and dealing with laces or buckles on the middle of Brighton beach in the sun.

10. Hat or Cap?

Having the sun hit your head for hours can be a fairly intense experience and turn an enjoyable day on the beach into quite an irritant. This is why we recommend that you bring a hat with you on your visit to Brighton beach on a sunny day.

The style of the hat or cap that you choose is of no importance as long as it covers your head from burning and shades your eyes and face from the midday sun.

Also, a light-coloured hat will help by reflecting the sun and keeping you cooler and is a great way to prevent dehydration and assist in maintaining a cool body temperature.
